Jane Kahler

Jane’s career started in the field of commercial art. She attended the “American School of Commercial Art. The first commercial art job was at Pollock Paper Co. Starting a family halted full time work for a few years. Free lance commercial art was done for a few years. The next commercial art field was for the designing of embroidery on garments and chenille emblems for jacket decoration in the entertainment and rodeo jackets. Custom Chenille Embroidery in Dallas is where Jane worked for 35 years, moving from the artist /designer to the position of Vice President of Sales. Jane is now retired to be a full-time artist with plein air painting in the plan.

Jane is past President of the Association of Traditional Artists. Past President of the Associated Creative Artists, past President of the DeSoto Art League and has served as several positions for Irving Art Assoc. and Arlington Visual Art Assoc. and a member of the Ellis County Art Association. Jane has won many awards in these organizations. A few best of show, several first place categories and many other awards. After retirement from her full-time job, she joined the Outdoor Painters Society since she then had the time to go on painting trips.

Jane has painted portraits, still life and animals and even some abstracts. Traditional style in landscape painting is the most painted subject that Jane does. She is always looking for strong light patterns in the photography that she takes. Jane paints from her photographs, but plein air painting is a pleasure that is enjoyed whenever possible.

Jane has painted in acrylic, watercolor, pastel, prisma color pencils and oil. The latter, oil painting is the most favored medium Jane selects when painting. She has a studio in her home in Arlington.

Some of the well known artists Jane has had workshop or class instructions from are Betty Sampson, Victor Armstrong, John Pototschnik, Bruce Peil, Naomi Brotherton, Margaret Kessler, Robert Pummill, Ann Templeton, Betsy Dillard Stroud, Darnell Jones, Ralph Oberg and others.

As a member of Ellis County Art Association, Jane’s paintings have been in Art on the Square in Waxahachie and were exhibited in Artists Showplace at Coit & Arapaho until it was closed just a few years ago.
