I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. Through my early years to graduation from W. T. White High School I always painted and drew as a hobby, and took art classes from junior high through high school. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Texas with a major in Painting and Drawing and a minor in Art Education. Since graduating from college I taught art in public schools for over 30 years in grades K through 12. During 15 of those years I taught Advanced Placement art and painting in high school. It was a joy to help my art students find their voices as artists as I continued to develop my own voice.
My artwork consists of my own ideas for problems that I attempt to solve in two-dimensional space. I choose objects, whether natural or man-made, that connect and relate to each other in space because of color, shape, and light. Sometimes my images are portrayed in a realistic way, and sometimes they are represented in abstraction. It depends on my vision – how I see them and how I decide to use the space. I work in watercolor, oil, and mixed media. I enjoy creating contrast with media and design to engage the viewer.
