Ana Maria Gower is a Serbian-American mixed media artist based in Dallas, Texas. Drawing deeply from personal history, her work explores themes of memory, resilience, and identity—shaped in no small part by her formative years in Belgrade during the 1999 NATO bombing. Raised by her grandmother, these early life experiences left a profound imprint on her artistic vision.
At the age of fifteen, Ana Maria moved to London, where she was awarded a full scholarship to study Fine Art at the renowned Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. While completing her B.A. in 2007, she began exhibiting in university-curated group shows across the city.
Later, a scholarship opportunity brought her to California to pursue an MBA while serving as Art Coordinator for the respected Firehouse Art Collective in Berkeley. During this period, she immersed herself in the vibrant Bay Area art scene, participating in numerous group exhibitions and pop-up shows, including the Emeryville Art Exhibition, Abrams Claghorn Gallery events, and the New East Bay Open Studios.
Ana Maria’s solo exhibitions reflect the evolution of her voice as an artist: Life as Potential (2018) and the Women series (2019) in California marked her early explorations into femininity and empowerment, while recent exhibitions in Serbia—Memories, The Violet Days, Transfusion, and Open Fields—reconnect with her cultural roots and collective history.
In addition to her studio practice, Ana Maria is a passionate advocate for arts and education. She currently serves as Director of Development at the Tesla Science Foundation, where she also oversees arts programming.
Currently, she is developing a powerful conceptual installation examining national identity and memory, timed to commemorate the anniversary of the NATO bombing of Serbia.
