Violet Sabrewings (Campylopterus hemileucurus) are native to southern Mexico through Costa Rica to western Panama, where they are relatively common. In Costa Rica, they occur in the mountains along both coasts. They typically occur at higher elevations, between 1,500 to 2,200 m, but may descend to lower elevations outside the breeding season.
