Be my strong refuge,
To which I may resort continually;
You have given the commandment to save me,
For You are my rock and my fortress. Psalm 71:3
This painting is inspired by hollyhocks that I saw on the trail in Galilee in Israel. It is the product of a verse that I have been thinking about from Isaiah 35:1″…the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the rose.” To see the desert bloom is stunning, especially when I consider the sheer improbability of the Jews returning to their homeland, exactly as prophesied thousands of years ago! The Bible has a timeline of events that has unfolded exactly as its pages foretold. To expect the rest of the story is no great stretch of faith when you consider all that has already happened!
This work attempts to capture the moment in time when, in an instant, everything pertaining to man changed. It was the moment when the two Mary's, contrary to their expectation, found the tomb of Jesus empty and all of life vibrantly different!
