“As we drove from Arches National Park to our hotel in Moab, we were treated to a huge harvest moon rising over the rocks. Everything was glowing.”
While working with collage at a workshop in Creede, CO, we first went outside to sketch. I chose the branches of a low hanging tree for the pattern of the rice paper underlay. I went on to define the branches and the feel of water below with watercolor and acrylic.
The Sweeney ranch sits at the beginning of the hill country in Morgan Mill. From the rockers on the back porch of the ranch house, one looks at this amazing multi-trunk live oak and layers of hills in the distance. I’ve painted this tree and view twice and have taken a dozen photos at all times of day and the constantly changing scene is a favorite.
