This piece depicts the Texas State Flag along with icons of Texas Bluebonnets, Longhorn Cattle and the beautiful red sunsets, all that make Texans proud.
After discovering that Texas had canyons of its own, I felt inspired to paint a canon scene that blended canyons from my own memory and pictures I saw of Texas Canyons. I love the colors that get exposed as water has eroded through the rock. It makes for a beautiful scene.
This is reminisce of all the sunsets I enjoyed while living at the foot of the Sandia Mountain. Looking West from there the Rio Grande Valley rises to the West Mesa on which five extinct volcanos reside. Every evening as the sunset builds behind them, they appear as sentinels guarding heavens treasured gold.
