Artist, Ruth Francis, grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. An avid art student in high school brought her a position with Hallmark Greeting Cards as design and production artist. While at Hallmark Greeting Cards, Ruth studied at the Kansas City Art Institute.
Ruth lived and painted in New Mexico for 23 years. Her works have sold extensively in New Mexico to private collections and exhibited at Casa Rinconada Studio near Taos. She has earned many awards throughout her career. Her more recent work has sold to private collections in both Texas and New Mexico and exhibited at House of Colors in Grapevine, Grapevine Main Street Art Gallery, and The Community Arts Center in Fort Worth. Her work is displayed in many office buildings throughout Texas and Utah.
Ruth is a member of Trinity Arts Guild, Mid-Cities Fine Artists, Visual Arts Society of Texas, The Arts League and Weatherford Art Association and teaches art in Grapevine.

    “Is there anything more beautiful than a pair of ballerina slippers showing labor of a dedicated dancer. These slippers belong to one of my student’s friends. He brought them in so he could paint them for her. We had fun photographing them. And we both painted.”

    “From my small series. Pioneers is done in acrylic with very thick texture. Actually, I did not use real flowers for this painting. I used some beautiful artificial flowers that I’ve had for years. I always wanted to paint them.  Bother were painted on a somewhat cloudy day.”

    “I remember when I was a little girl, we could have baby chicks for Easter. I guess it wasn’t really humane. But it was a wonderful experience to see the chicks grow up. I really don’t know what my dad did with mine after they grew up enough to cock-a-doodle-doo every morning. They just kind of disappeared?”

    The Pacific Coast is a fairy tale dream to me.  As a child during my family’s many trips to the West coast, I played in the surf.  I was actually afraid of it, but I never told anyone.  The big black rocks seemed like monsters to me.  And the crashing waves were scary things that chased me back to the shore.

    “This is reminiscing of all the sunsets I enjoyed while living at the foot of the Sandia Mountain.  Looking West from there the Rio Grande Valley rises to the West Mesa on which five extinct volcanos reside.  Every evening as the sunset builds behind them, they appear as sentinels guarding heavens treasured gold.”
