Oh how I love the Golden Eagle. I have a little book, called The Eagle Christian. The author takes you through a journey of a Golden Eagle’s life and draws comparisons to our lives. The symbolism is so profound! The author, Kenneth Price offers insight to many of the trials and growing pains that will be experienced in the life of the eagle and how that parallels our lives as well. I highly recommend the book!

Beneath the Shadow of His Wings

    24 x 18 Pastel

Framed – Add 2-3 inches per side for frame

This painting is loaded with meaning for me. I’ve seen many trials in my life. God has delivered me out of them all. He’s still delivers me today from the trials that beset me. But one thing I can count on and this I know is true: He hides me under the shadow of His wings and protects me from my enemies and is an ever present help in time of need. According to His Word:

“Wondrously show Your loving kindness, O Savior of those who take refuge at Your right hand From those who rise up against them. Keep me as the apple of the eye; Hide me in the shadow of Your wings From the wicked who despoil me, My deadly enemies who surround me…”
    Psalm 17:7-9

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield…”
    Psalm 91:1-2, 4

I can go on and on and on. What a wonderful Father we have!

One of my favorite styles of painting is chiaroscuro. It’s an Italian word, meaning light coming out of the dark. Rembrandt was famous for painting in this style. I just love the mystique behind this beautiful horse. I imagine that he’s awaiting his master’s footsteps.

This gorgeous Friesian mare, Pippi is the epitome of “romantic” as she frolics along the beach. In my humble opinion, the Friesian horse is among the most beautiful horses on earth.

Special thanks to Katarzyna Okrzesik who provides me with the outstanding material from which I paint.

Naming a painting is always a joy. The name usually comes to me before I even begin the piece. In this case, the image embodied love. What is extra sweet about these two lovers is their apparent youth. You see, the male lion couldn’t be older than two; I can tell this because of the size of his mane.

So, why the title name in Italian? There’s something about love that brings out my Italian roots. It makes me want to sing about love! If I were fluent in Italian, I suppose I would break out in song in Italian. Thus, we have Giovane Amore, (Young Love). And deeper still, when I observe love, it inspires the love I have toward the people in my life – and I’m filled with gratitude for them.

In my book, Resurrection Monday, I talk a great deal about the struggles of life; but the “wonder” of the story is that: Love wins! Love eclipses all else. I hope you have a chance to get a printed copy or a digital copy and let God’s Love envelop you like never before.

    Ti amo (I Love You)

  • Lilac Breasted Roller – Nancy Conant

    Lilac Breasted Roller

    16 x 12 Pastel

Framed – Add 2-3 inches per side for frame

When I first saw the Lilac Breasted Roller, I was awestruck at its beauty. It was something I just had to paint! God’s creations are so wonderful, but some things he made are just over the top. This little bird is one of them.

Fun facts about the Lilac Breasted Roller: This absolutely breathtaking bird is the Lilac- breasted Roller. You won’t find them in any tree-less areas, since they need to be constantly perched atop high vantage points in order to spot yummy prey like insects, lizards, small rodents and even, small birds.

They nest in natural holes found in trees and lay around 2-4 eggs. Both boys and girls get to grow up looking fabulous, since there is no sexual dimorphism in the species. The birds are monogamous and their name, ‘roller’ actually comes from the spectacular aerial displays the birds employ during mating season. Lilac-breasted Rollers will dive from a considerable elevation, and then roll in the air while simultaneously letting out a loud call to attract a partner.

The best part of their mating dance, though, is when it’s perched. It rocks its body, almost like a belly dancer, swaying back and forth, while keeping its head perfectly still. It looks hilarious, actually. The colors of this Lilac-breasted Roller paired with its outstanding dance moves make it one of the true lady-killers of the bird world.
