  • Branches Over Water – Jill Danahey

    Branches Over Water

    Framed 13 x 18

While working with collage at a workshop in Creede, CO, we first went outside to sketch.  I chose the branches of a low hanging tree for the pattern of the rice paper underlay.  I went on to define the branches and the feel of water below with watercolor and acrylic.

  • Stand of Aspens – Jill Danahey

    Stand of Aspens

    Framed 20 x 13

    Watercolor & Gouache

This watercolor study from a trip to Colorado uses a dark underlay of deep forest shadows with tree shape lifted by brush to the aspen lights.  I was most interested in variation of color among the light tones of the trees.

  • Branches – Jill Danahey

    Framed 14 x 16

Another collage from Creede, CO.  Rice paper gives the branch shapes their texture and an overpainting of acrylic gold metallic defines the strong, whimsical shapes.

  • New Mexico Hollyhocks – Jackie Railsback

    New Mexico Hollyhocks

    Framed 28 x 35″

Transparent to translucent was the play of colors and textures. It was fun using a bright color, Opera, to paint the flowers.

  • Summer Breeze – Cherie Giddens

    Summer Breeze

    34 x 14

    Framed Watercolor

I wanted to capture the feeling of riding the breeze over the river in a row boat. I uses the long vertical format to emphasize the effect of the river’s current. The cool water and green grass and trees were always a summer’s delight.

  • Village Worship Remembered – Cherie Giddens

    “Village Worship Remembered”

    31 x 25

    Framed Watercolor

This scene can still be found in the mountains of New Mexico. I used the local color of the adobe walls and tin roofs with a separate painting behind it in sepia tones to emphasize the village’s heritage of worship.

  • Evening Falls – Cherie Giddens

    Evening at the Falls

    28 x 21 Framed

I began with wet-into-wet color to tone the paper with the color of the prevailing light against the cliffs. These colors of crimson were allowed to shine through every detail of the painting.

  • Splender in Creede Colorado – Cherie Giddens

    Splender in Creede Colorado

    26 x 32

    Framed Watercolor

The creation of a textured surface with various papers gave the foundation for this landscape. I was in Creede, Colorado, where the ragged cliffs protrude all around the majestic landscape. This painting captured the texture and mood of this late August afternoon.

  • A Rio Grande Mile – Cherie Giddens

    A Rio Grande Mile

    29 x 36

    Framed Watercolor

I love the meandering Rio Grande and the beauty of the surrounding landscape capturing it’s head waters in the mountains near Creede, Colorado. The spectacular fall colors of the Colorado mountains glow in the early morning light of day. A scene that cries out to be painted.

  • Solitude – Fran Chausse White

    Framed 26 x 30

A rare, especially peaceful scene on a chilly Autumn Day!  All boats were docked, fishermen and families had gone home.  Mr.  Egret settled in for some quiet time after flying in from Possum Kingdom!
