“The reference photos I took for this sculpture were taken while visiting my wife’s brother and his wife in Pennsylvania. The area is very scenic!
While being driven around by my brother-in-law, I took reference photos through the front windshield and at special stops on the route. The scenery was gorgeous! As when I was a child growing up close to the mountains, our drive brought a sweet feeling of peace and awe from the wonders of nature of which I have continued to love.
With this sculpture, I used an angular composition rather than the horizontal composition I often use. This helps one to see and feel the depth and distance more dramatically. I know I say this a lot, but my work needs to be seen in person to get the full effect.”
