Laurie Huff's Artwork

As a contemporary abstract painter, Laurie Huff enjoys travel and exploring the outdoors as both a retreat from the daily demands and routines of life and to capture that sense beauty and awe of nature. After a career spent indoors and often behind a computer, it was time to venture outside. Nature and the landscape serve as an endless inspiration for her. Laurie’s painting process often includes acrylic, mixed-media, oil and cold wax. To create a connection between nature and the viewer, she uses expressive linework, lively color, and textured layers.

Laurie obtained a BA in Fine Arts at the University of Texas Permian Basin. After moving to the Dallas area, she earned a Masters in Education at Texas A&M Commerce and enjoyed teaching art for ten years. This was followed by ten years serving art and theatre teachers as a Fine Arts Facilitator with Mesquite ISD. After saying goodbye to her career in Fine Arts Education, she has reconnected with her passion for painting through an abstract art practice. Laurie is currently active with several north Texas area artist groups and has served as the President of the Rockwall Art League as well as co-chaired and juried two annual art shows. She has studied under numerous master artists including Jerry McLaughlin, Bev Boren, and Ruth Armitage.

Laurie’s work has been accepted into many juried shows and has received numerous awards, including Southwest Watercolor Society Best of Show 2021. Laurie’s greatest desire is to place artwork in spaces that bring a sense of joy and freedom that can only be found in nature to her collectors through a meaningful connection to their own experiences and memories.
